As a teenager, I was highly involved in my school music program. It was the most important driver of my efforts and motivations in my efforts throughout high school. The things I learned in high school continue to shape and enrich my life today, but the most important thing that I got out of my music programs throughout school was a sense of community and fellowship among other musicians.
Today, this is what motivates and inspires me as a budding music educator. I want to create and facilitate the same kind of learning environments that promote friendship, curiosity, creativity and confidence in my students. I want to show students how learning about music is an important part of developing as an emotionally and socially intelligent person, and how music helps us all to not only have rich, fulfilling lives, but also relate to one another.
