Today, we explored and workshopped using Screencastify and H5P.
According to their website, Screencastify is used in over 70% of American classrooms. It can be used to to record video lessons, create video feedback, and personalize learning experiences – making it a high-powered tool for teachers. Screencastify can also be used to share your lessons with other colleagues or send lessons to absent students. Lessons can be customized to address large groups or individuals. Students can also record themselves in order to self-reflect on their own progress. Interactive questions can be embedded into videos to include assessment tasks throughout. Additionally, teachers can track who has or hasn’t watched their videos, and even how many times they have watched the video. This helps teachers evaluate how effective their video lessons are. Screencastify is designed to work best with the Google suite of apps. In particular, Screencastify is closely integrated with Google Drive, Classrooms and Sign-on.

H5P is a really versatile tool that can enhance the interactivity and engagement of educational materials in a number of ways. It’s used within K-12 schools as well as higher education institutions. Additionally, its open-source nature and active community mean that it is being developed on an ongoing basis as well as being widely adopted in educational settings.
